Carsonified’s new online teaching environment Treehouse allows users to learn about web and mobile design and development.
Here is the slightly eccentric launch video:
Although there are similar services available (Codeacademy and Lynda), Treehouse uses gamification to make the process interactive. For instance, upon watching a series of videos, users complete quizzes in order to unlock badges.

“We plan on getting millions of unemployed or underemployed people out of low-paying and unsatisfying jobs and in to higher-paying and exciting design and development jobs,” co-founder Ryan Carson told TechCrunch, who also reported that several blue chip companies like Estée Lauder, Disney and Virgin use the service for employee training.

Hey Charlotte, I came across this site a while back and found it quite interesting. Having to pay to use it put me off going further though. Is it worth paying to use it?
Hey Samo,
It really depends on your knowledge, if you are a complete novice I think it is a good alternative to working through text books and also comparative in terms of price. Once you have the rights skills though, the key to getting a job is experience, experience, experience. So, do get a 2-3 projects completed (even if they don’t make you a millionaire) so you have a portfolio to show a potential employer.
Hope this helps!
Thanks Charlotte. Dig the new design by the way!
Thanks Sam!
